The Atacama Desert became one of the biggest fashion graveyards in the world. Tons of clothes dumped by brands and careless consumers ended up there, polluting the land and harming local life. To change that, VTEX launched REcommerce Atacama, the first e-commerce platform that doesn’t sell anything. It cleans the desert.

The clothes were rescued, cleaned, and dropped as limited collections on the website. Everything was free. Customers only paid for shipping. Each item came with the story of where it was found and why it deserved a second chance.

The result? The first drop sold out in just a few hours. Over 300 pieces found new owners in 10 countries. What was once waste became a symbol of conscious consumption, supported by influencers, NGOs, and international media.

It was a campaign that used the rules of e-commerce to challenge the rules of fast fashion, and proved that one click can change the world.
